How much shade a pergola provides isn’t a matter of luck. It’s a design decision. The spacing between cross beams and the width of the rafters are the two primary variables: the closer the beams are set and the wider the rafters, the more sun protection the structure delivers. We also factor in placement orientation relative to the direction and volume of sunlight your specific site receives, which matters more in Austin than in most climates.

Structural aluminum suits the clean lines of contemporary Austin homes and won’t rust or require seasonal sealing. Low-maintenance vinyl delivers a traditional pergola look with minimal upkeep. Not every yard is the same, and not every pergola should be.
