Custom Pergolas Built for the Way You Use Your Outdoor Space
Most pergola contractors handle the build. We handle everything from the first sketch to the final post. At Archadeck of Austin, our team manages both the design and the construction, so you have one accountable partner throughout the entire project. There’s no miscommunication between a designer and a separate crew, and there are no surprises when the structure goes up.
For Austin homeowners, a pergola does more than add visual interest to the backyard. It delivers shade from the intense Central Texas sun, defines an outdoor room, and can anchor a larger living area alongside a deck, patio, or fire feature. Backed by 40+ years of Archadeck experience and two comprehensive warranties covering craftsmanship and structural integrity, our pergolas are built for long-term performance.
It all begins with a complimentary design consultation. Call us today at (512) 886-8367 to get started.
Shade Engineering: Getting the Right Coverage for Austin Summers
How much shade a pergola provides isn’t a matter of luck. It’s a design decision. The spacing between cross beams and the width of the rafters are the two primary variables: the closer the beams are set and the wider the rafters, the more sun protection the structure delivers. We also factor in placement orientation relative to the direction and volume of sunlight your specific site receives, which matters more in Austin than in most climates.
For homeowners who want even greater coverage, we can integrate a polycarbonate cover into the design. It maintains the open-air character of a pergola while protecting against light rain and blocking UV rays. Curtains, blinds, and retractable canopies are additional options, all customizable to suit the space. Pergola Materials for Central Texas Homes
Cedar remains our most popular choice for Austin pergolas. Its natural character suits the Central Texas landscape, and its resistance to rot and decay means it holds up well through the heat and humidity cycles of a Texas summer. But cedar isn’t the only option. Depending on your home’s architecture and how much maintenance you want to take on, we can work with pressure-treated wood, low-maintenance vinyl, or structural aluminum. Structural aluminum suits the clean lines of contemporary Austin homes and won’t rust or require seasonal sealing. Low-maintenance vinyl delivers a traditional pergola look with minimal upkeep. Pressure-treated wood sits between cedar and vinyl in terms of character and cost. Ask about material availability during your consultation, and we’ll walk you through what fits your project best.
We even custom designed and built the table to accompany this outdoor living space. It’s a good example of what our design team can pull together when a project calls for it.
Wall-Mounted & Freestanding Pergola Designs
Not every yard is the same, and not every pergola should be. We build both wall-mounted pergolas that attach to the house and extend your living space outward, and freestanding pergolas that can define a specific zone in the yard on their own. A freestanding structure works especially well around a pool, a fire pit area, or a dedicated dining space. A wall-mounted design connects the indoor and outdoor areas visually and functionally.
Before we settle on rafter spacing, cover type, or material, our design team works with you to understand how you actually plan to use the space. A pergola intended primarily for shade gets a different treatment than one designed to frame a fire feature or serve as a dining pavilion. We can also combine pergola design and installation in Austin with a deck, patio, or other outdoor structures as part of a single coordinated project. This lets us integrate stone, metal, wood, and fire elements into one cohesive outdoor living space. Most smaller pergolas can be built in 1-2 days; larger or more complex pergola designs could take 2-3 days.
